Our Dr. Cohen Named Top Doctor

We are pleased to announce that our founder, Dr. Robert A. Cohen, has been named a Top Doctor by the respected physician-rating firm Castle Connolly. This honor places Dr. Cohen in the top seven percent of doctors in the nation, based on a survey of his peers.

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. is a healthcare research and information company founded in 1991 by a former medical college board chairman and president to help guidcohene consumers to America’s top doctors and top hospitals.

Finding trusted doctors

We know it’s difficult to find a primary care doctor you feel comfortable with, one whom you can confide in and trust to safeguard your health.

That’s why so many people turn to online rating sites to find a doctor for themselves and their families. Even doctors do it. A 2017 study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that 53 percent of doctors and 39 percent of patients reported visiting a healthcare rating website at least once when searching for a doctor.

But the Castle Connolly vetting process provides more confidence in your choice because it reviews so many more data points when assessing the quality of each physician. It looks at not just patient recommendations, but many other factors as well.

How is the rating determined?

Castle Connolly, with over 25 years of experience in researching, reviewing, and selecting Top Doctors, differs from patient-rating websites where comments from patients may be highly subjective. In contrast, doctors who are named to this exclusive list are nominated by peers and are then subject to rigorous vetting by an experienced team of researchers.

“The first step to becoming a Castle Connolly Top Doctor is through our nomination process. Every year, Castle Connolly surveys tens of thousands of practicing physicians across the U.S. by email and mail to ensure our list always reflects the latest in quality care. After a doctor is nominated, our physician-led research team begins their work to screen each doctor and confirm whether he or she meets Castle Connolly standards.”

And this is just the beginning of the rigorous process.

Once a doctor is nominated, “Castle Connolly evaluates several criteria when selecting Top Doctors, including professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation, and disciplinary history. Where available, we include outcomes data in our research. We also ask doctors in our survey to consider not only the training and clinical skills of the physicians they nominate, but also interpersonal skills such as listening and communicating effectively, demonstrating empathy, and instilling trust and confidence.”

Dr. Cohen, a board-certified Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a designation that honors those who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues and within their communities.
